The daredevil fishermen of Discovery will be returning with an all-new Episode 22 of Deadliest Catch Season 19 soon. The last episode featured Sig using a very old computer to locate a nearby Bairdi hotspot while Jonathan and his crew tried their best to save their pots from falling into the dreaded Bering Sea grave.

Airing since April 2005, Deadliest Catch is a documentary/reality series that revolves around a bunch of fishermen hailing from Alaska. Their main goal throughout the Discovery series is to find enough King and Snow crabs to meet the yearly demand that they set upon themselves.

These crabs are worth hefty cash since they usually live in conditions that would be considered harsh for a human to be in. Despite the dangers that lurk beneath and above the sea, these Alaskan fishermen are willing to go to extreme lengths so that they can leave the sea with pots full of pricey crabs (and other creatures).

Deadliest Catch Season 19 Episode 21: Recap

In Episode 21 of Deadliest Catch Season 19, Sig informs Jonathan about some locations around the sea where golden crabs were spotted. The canneries were going to close down in 10 days, creating problems for these fishermen.

Sig recalls finding a hole while he was fishing in this same location previously, so he tries his best to find it again. Normal searches the boat for an old computer. Jake puts Shy on Hydros since there aren’t many crew members to handle the ship efficiently.

Jake sends down pots into the ocean, but all of them come out empty. All that barely shows up are some codes, indicating that crabs have already started migrating a bit toward the south. Shy starts to finally realize how repetitive yet thrilling working on these ships as a fisherman was going to be.

A similar situation happens with Rick, with most of his pots showing up empty, too. Sig finally finds the computer from the 90s, which supposedly had the location of the hole in it. The computer does turn on, and Sig’s able to retrieve the data that he was so desperately after.

With the ship moving so violently in the ocean, Sig ends up losing signal on the computer. The day is saved when Mandy’s selfie can capture the co-ords to the hole. Sig quickly notes it down and sets off on this new plan.

Jake moves to the South, and their pots are now coming up filled with crab, putting a smile on everyone’s faces. Shy can practice her hydraulic lifting skills during the fishing session.

Unable to use his crane, Rick has to resort to using hydraulics to haul and rebait his gear. The episode ends with all of the fishermen hoping to find a better catch during their next session. Rick, Jake, and the others had to experience their ups and downs before they could rejoice in their ultimate results.

Jake Anderson is in ‘Deadliest Catch’ Season 20, but not on his own boat. He had to join the Northwestern.

Fans of Deadliest Catch have been with the show for years, so long in fact that the series is now in its 20th season. The show has been going since 2005, but in a new trailer for Season 20, many fans noticed that some of the show’s most familiar faces appeared to be missing.

Jake Anderson, Sophia “Bob” Nielsen, and Sean Dwyer appear to be absent from the upcoming season, along with the Saga, one of the boats that has been with the show since the beginning. Now, fans want to know why Jake isn’t in Season 20.

Why is Jake Anderson not on ‘Deadliest Catch’?

According to TV Insider, Jake’s boat, the Saga, was locked up and repossessed, leaving Jake with no way to provide for his family. However, he’s definitely still on the show. Jake ultimately returned to the Northwestern, having to take some humble pills and return to the ship where he initially learned the ropes. In speaking with TV Insider, Jake said that he found out he wouldn’t be able to take the boat out just days beforehand.

“With the boat, I found out on a Friday in August,” Jake said. “Everything was situated to go red crab fishing. Then September 1, things started to look dark. Just before I was getting to go red crab fishing, I found out my partner, with all due respect with the legal things going on, we don’t know what he did. I lost my boat. In saying that, I don’t think there has ever been a show to watch the American dream unfold and watch it crumble at the same time.”

Jake ultimately turned to Sig Hansen, his old mentor, for support after losing his boat.

“As fishermen and fisherwomen, the camaraderie is something special,” Jake said. “It’s a very honorable profession. Not just for Sig, but I think any one of us would do that for each other, even if we were an enemy. For Sig specifically, not that I expected him to take me in, but we both knew we’d had a tumultuous relationship.”

“Without my boat, I’m not a threat to him anymore,” Jake added. “I can only be an asset. Honestly, if you asked him I think he was, in a very small way, happy to have some of his team back again.”

Jake added that the tumultuous relationship will extend into the season.

“I think the fans will have to watch because I don’t want to give away any spoilers,” Jake said. “But like I said we have a tumultuous relationship. I really had to step down, and that was really hard for me. It really settled in where I was and where I was in reality in that I didn’t think I was going to end up sitting on the port side of the old boat I used to work on.”

“For me, I’m very honest with them so the public can see I believe in the show and believe in fishing,” Jake added. “That they can see my open heart, especially when it’s raw like that…It is entertaining. I’ll tell you that.”
