Josh Owens has starred on Moonshiners for years. Upon his return, Josh turned up in the woods in a wheelchair after a brutal motorcycle accident which left him with multiple injuries. He broke his back, neck and both legs in the race at Daytona International Speedway.

Moonshiners has followed Josh’s journey for years as he makes money making liquor. The Discovery Channel star’s fans have rallied around him in recent months after he was severely injured in a motorcycle race. The incident happened in March 2023 – but Josh is simply “thankful” to be alive.

Why is Josh on Moonshiners in a wheelchair?

Josh Owens is in a wheelchair on Moonshiners because he was injured in a motorcycle accident at Daytona International Speedway. He was “spared by God” in the incident in March 2023.

He broke his neck, back and legs and was rushed to hospital by emergency workers. One leg had about 50 staples and a huge scar. Josh’s friend Ray launched a fundraiser to help pay for his $100K hospital bill.

In 2018, Josh had another motorcycle crash which meant his left side “is pretty well paralyzed,” he said, and he suffered from severe pain afterwards. After the 2023 crash, he’s undergone multiple surgeries.

What happened to Josh on Moonshiners?

Josh is back on Moonshiners in a wheelchair. He appears to now be climbing trees and wrote on Instagram: “Thanking how lucky I am that I get another chance to still be dad, still leave a good legacy.”

“Still got another chance to lead people to God, just lucky that I got another chance and I get to be here. Love everybody,” the star wrote on January 9, as fans sent him healing wishes.

So far, $31K has been raised of his fundraiser, as Josh does not have medical insurance. During his recovery, fans and loved ones gathered to celebrate his birthday in August 2023.

Moonshiners star still making liquor

Moonshiners’ Josh Owens may be in recovery from the accident but that hasn’t stopped him turning up for filming to make liquor. He’s been working closely with former professional boxer, Butterbean.

In the recent Moonshiners episode, Josh wanted to drive through the woods, despite being in a wheelchair. One fan wrote, “How is Josh about to wipe out in a motorized wheelchair?”

They added: “Please keep him away from anything with a motor.” Another penned: “A mobility scooter in the woods, only Josh would do something like that #moonshiners.”
